A FELL runner is believed to have suffered a broken ankle after slipping while crossing a clapper bridge.
Cave rescuers from Clapham Cave Rescue turned out this morning after the 38-year-old fell between Masongill and Thornton in Lonsdale.
Rescuers revealed he tried to continue but after 20 metres was unable to negotiate a stile and was forced to call for help.
The team splinted the injured leg and stretchered the casualty across fields to Westgate Farm and transferred him to a road ambulance.
