A WOMAN who suffered life threatening injuries in a horrific car crash on the A590 is now 'critical but stable', say police.

Police were called at 11.56am yesterday (December 22) following a two car collision near Brow Edge Road.

A 20-year-old woman from Barrow-in-Furness was taken to the Royal Preston Hospital via air ambulance with life-threatening injuries. She was driving a Vauxhall Corsa.

A 43-year-old man from Dalton-in-Furness, who was driving a Skoda Octavia, was taken to Furness General Hospital with minor injuries.

Police said 'suitably trained officers are supporting the injured woman’s family'.

Anyone who witnessed the collision or has any information is asked to contact Cumbria Police on 101 and ask to speak to an officer from the South Cumbria Operational Support Unit.

Motorists are stoll advised to use alternative routes as there are long delays following the collision.
