VOLUNTEERS from Lunesdale are preparing to travel to Uganda next month to help some of the country's poorest people.

The 19-strong group, led by local doctors, will focus on health care under the auspices of the Ugandan charity Christian Restoration Ministries International.

They aim to provide mosquito nets for families with small children, worming treatments, health education, washable sanitary protection and sex education for young women.

The group will also administer emergency health care 'where possible and appropriate'.

For some of the Lunesdale volunteers, it will be a return visit to help the poor of Uganda.

Pauline Kaye, who is making the trip for the third time with her doctor husband, said: "All of us are simply ordinary people who are going to Uganda to try to make a difference. We feel that it is a real opportunity to offer care and help to people who manage to live with dignity, under circumstances so different from our own."
