CALLOUS criminals stole hundreds of pounds worth of hi-tech equipment while a family slept soundly in their beds.

Overnight on Sunday, December 21, thieves broke into the living quarters of the Broughton Craggs Hotel and Restaurant in Cockermouth and made off with an X-box, a Samsung Galaxy tablet and an expensive Notebook laptop.

They broke in through a bedroom window and got as far as the kitchen but left when they were disturbed by the grandchildren of hotel owners Derek and Julie Horton.

Since the break in, Lisa Horton, daughter of the hotel owners, told the Gazette that security measures have been increased and added: "They won't get in again."

Anybody with information on the incident is advised to contact Cumbria police on 101 and ask for PC Emma Walker or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
