WHILE there may not be a white Christmas Day this year, forecasters have warned snow may arrive on Boxing Day.

The Met Office has this morning announced a yellow weather warning of snow for the North West to run from 3pm on Boxing Day until 3pm on Saturday.

A deepening depression is expected to arrive on the 26th with snow forecasted in areas above 200 metres.

And while there is no guarantee the white stuff will fall, you may want to keep your sleds on standby, says Met Office spokesperson Dan Williams.

"For the Lakes it is fairly low likeliood at the moment but that might change over the course of the next few days," he said.

"The cold air is towards the northern tip of the pressure and that needs to be present for any chance of snow. It will depend on where the pressure arrives. Cumbria might just be on the northern end but if it goes 50 miles higher it is more likely to be rain."
