WESTMORLAND Flat Roofing company has protected Britain's tallest indoor climbing wall from the harsh Cumbrian winter using a special high tech solution.
The company replaced the roof of the award-winning Lakeland Climbing Centre in Kendal, which is almost 30 metres high - nearly 100 feet - using state-of-the-art technology called 'Protan single ply membranes'.
The roof can now withstand winds of up to 200mph, said David Welch, director of Westmorland Flat Roofing.
“Protan’s vacuum system was the only practical solution to be honest," said Mr Welch. "It's vacuum system is the only single ply roofing method to harness natural air movement to provide adhesion. The system uses strategically-positioned vacuum vents across the roof
"Air movement across the roof and through the vents creates suction, drawing air from between the membrane and airtight substrate below, causing the single ply to ‘stick’ to the roof. The stronger the wind, the more the membrane adheres to the roof structure."
And Lakeland Climbing Centre owner Jeremy Wilson added: “We were delighted with the minimal disruption whilst the work was being carried out, and with the finished result."
