DRIVERS were hospitalised after a crash on Kirkstone Pass yesterday (December 30).

Cumbria Police were called at 2.45pm after an Audi A6 and Volkswagen Golf collided near Glenridding leaving one vehicle on the embankment and the other in the middle of the road.

One female driver was treated by the North West Ambulance Service for a a suspected leg injury and the other female driver was treated for shock before both being taken to Cumberland Infirmary Carlisle by road ambulance.

An air ambulance attended and Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team assisted after coming across the blocked road.

The team were on the way back from a false alarm rescue operation to Stoney Cove Pike Area above Hartsop to investigate calls for help.

A team spokesperson said: "Following further information it materialised it was the hounds on the fell and the calls may have been misheard with good intention."
