A SOUTH Lakes craft maker has been selected to take part in a prestigious arts programme worth around £3,000 in tuition.
Sculptor Tom Philipson, 41, of Ulverston, was one of 40 people nationally to bag a spot on the Crafts Council Hothouse programme for emerging designers.
"It's very exciting to be chosen," said Tom. "I make sculptural furniture - strange stuff in the shape of animals.
"I do it part time but hopefully through the programme will be able to do it full time."
Tom, who has taught at Kendal College and works a few days a week for a local cabinet maker, will be travelling to Manchester and London for a series of workshops and courses over the next six months.
But he is not alone in his success, as Beatrix Baker, an intern at the Charlie Whinney Studio, in Witherslack, also made the cut.
The pair will be supported by the Crafts Council and provided with the support to nurture and develop their craft.
