A SOUTH Lakes cancer charity is gearing up for its annual fundraising walk under the night skies.

CancerCare will stage its ninth StarWalk around Kendal to raise money to help support local families affected by cancer and life-limiting conditions.

One of the only night walk events of its kind in the area, StarWalk has raised more than half a million pounds towards the charity's specialist services in South Lakeland - and this year they are expecting around 500 entrants.

“As well as an important fundraiser for us, the event is also a lovely way for local families to get together to achieve something really positive,” said organiser Richard Cogger. “Some of our StarWalkers use the event as a way of helping them recover after a serious illness.

"Others will be walking or running in support of someone they know who has experienced cancer or in memory of a loved one so it makes the atmosphere on the night extra special.”
