TWO snakes were found after being dumped outside in freezing temperatures.

The corn snakes, which are non-venomous constrictors, were found at 10.30am on Wednesday, January 14, near rubbish bins behind Paradise Street, Barrow.

The RSPCA are investigating and inspector Will Lamping said: “It was very cold and it's unlikely they would have survived very long had they not been found.

“Snakes can’t regulate their own body temperatures and rely on their external environment to warm up or cool down.

"A reptile that is too cold can become stressed, may be unable to feed or move and its immune system will not function properly. These snakes were both also underweight.

“They’re now being cared for by an exotics expert, where they have been warmed up and I’m told should recover, but we want to know who they belong to and who left them out there.”

The vivarium is made of a light coloured wood with a glass and chrome front.

Anyone with any information about who owns the snakes should call the RSPCA inspector appeal line on 0300 123 8018 and ask to leave a message for inspector Lamping.

If anybody finds a snake, call the RSPCA cruelty line on 0300 1234 999.
