LANCASTER Music Festival coordinator Ben Ruth has attended a 'community champions' reception at No. 10 Downing Street.

Last October, Lancaster Music Festival saw an estimated £1m boost to the city’s economy from a tiny production budget of less than £30K using a unique business approach that eschews all public funding.

The success of this approach attracted the interest of local MP Eric Ollerenshaw resulting in an invite from PM David Cameron to a reception at No. 10 for community champions.

Mr Ruth said: “It was a wonderful reception. Everyone was really friendly and chatty including the staff.

“I think it’s fair to say I was the only one there with Cuban heels with steel toe caps, which, incidentally were secured with black gaffer tape.”

The dates for next year’s festival are October 8-12 with the event billed as Lancaster’s Unofficial Bank Holiday for the second year running.
