A HOMELESS Kendal man who called 999 and said he was “drowning in a phone box” has been fined by magistrates.
A court heard that Jason Harrison, 25, made three calls to the police “in a short space of time” from a phone box at Gooseholme in the early hours of January 17.
Officers attended and told Harrison “not to call the police unless he really needs them,” but he was arrested after continuing to bang on the phone box.

Harrison pleaded guilty to two counts of being drunk and disorderly – the second incident occurred outside St George’s Church on Castle Street on January 20.
He was asked to leave the church’s homeless shelter because he was drunk, but returned later and knocked on the door saying he wanted a sleeping bag and food.
In mitigation, Rachel Broughton said: “These were basic requests but made in drink and very badly expressed.
“This is the coldest and most difficult time of year to be suffering from lack of accommodation.”
Harrison was fined £80 for each charge and ordered to pay £85 costs and a £20 victim surcharge.
