A FORMER South Lakeland headteacher has been chosen as the Liberal Democrat parliamentary candidate for Barrow and Furness.

Clive Peaple was backed 100 per cent and named Lib Dem candidate for the constituency on Saturday (January 10).

"I'm delighted to have been chosen and believe our policies are the best by a country mile," he said. "I want to talk to people to get over the fact we're wiser, kinder and better for the area."

Although originally from the South West, the 65-year-old has lived on a farm at Dalton for 14 years with his wife of 41 years, and taught at Cartmel Priory C of E Secondary School from 2001 to 2007.

The father-of-three and grandparent has been a member of the party since the 1970s and said he believed Furness has the potential for a "brilliant future" based on a concentration of new industry, unique to the UK.
