A Grand Night Out for Alzheimer’s Research is being staged at Lancaster Grand Theatre on Saturday, January 31 (7.30pm), to help launch a fundraising campaign to support a research group at Lancaster University that has developed a drug which has the potential to stop Alzheimer’s disease in its tracks.

The 2011 Britain’s Got Talent finalist, Kendalian entertainer Steven Hall, will be joined by London comedienne Pam Ford, singer songwriter Amy-Jo Clough, magician Kevin Cunliffe, musician Pete Lashley, Ludus Dance, Aurora band, and Holly Johnstone (pictured) from BBC One’s Tumble along with many other acts.

Every penny from ticket sales for the variety show goes straight to the laboratory to fund the development of the drug.

Queen Elizabeth School is staging We Will Rock You from Monday, February 2, until Saturday, February 7. Ben Elton's rock opera uses the songs of Queen and is set 300 years in the future. The musical follows a group of Bohemians desperately searching for the freedom to listen to rock music and the ability to break free. Directed by Laura-Anne Shepherd, it is a fast-paced, loud and energetic production. Performances at the Kirkby Lonsdale school start at with a 2pm matinee on the Saturday. Burton Amateur Dramatic Society presents two one-act plays with hotpot supper tomorrow (Friday) and Saturday, at Morewood School. The plays are After the Flags and Bands by Allan Williams directed by Hilary King, and Twilight Robbery by Cumbrian author Nicholas Corder, directed by Ian Stokes, a new play to be premiered in Burton. Shap Memorial Hall hosts The Snow Bear on Sunday (3.30pm). Touring with Highlights Rural Touring Scheme, the wintery, Scandinavian themed show features live music, puppets and projections and a beautiful miniature theatre packed full of delights,telling the story of a polar bear who is taken away from his Arctic home and of his adventures with mischievous elves, goblins, trolls and a friendly Tomten. Fans of Jane Austen can help create their very own comedy play based on her work during a hilarious new show at Kendal's Brewery Art Centre on Saturday (8pm). Austentatious is a completely improvised show which takes the audiences suggestions and turns them into a unique performance. The premise is that Jane Austen did not write just six novels but hundreds and the actors' job is to bring to life one of the lost ones. At the beginning, members of the audience write down their suggestions on a piece of paper and put them in a bucket. The Erato Trio is one of the UK's leading young ensembles and pays Kendal Town Hall a visit next Wednesday, February 4 (1pm) for a recital as part of Kendal Midday Concert Club. The exciting threesome is rapidly establishing a reputation as a top young trio, praised for its virtuosity, outstanding musicianship and stylistic versatility.
