AN ATTEMPTED burglary at an Ambleside shop today (January 29) has prompted an investigation.

Two men attempted to gain entry by damaging the front door of Ambleside Jewellers, on Lake Road, at around 4.20am.

The alarm was activated which led to a woman disturbing the two men who ran off in the direction of a walk way towards St Mary’s Lane.

The woman was shocked by this incident but unharmed.

Police appealing for witnesses have described the men as approximately 6ft tall wearing dark clothing and balaclavas or hoods covering their faces.

One of the offenders was said to be white.

Detective Inspector Dave Stalker, of South Cumbria CID, said: “This must have been a distressing incident for the woman involved and thankfully she suffered no injuries.

"We are appealing for anyone with information or witnessed suspicious activity in the early hours of this morning to get in touch.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101 and ask to speak to an officer from South Cumbria CID.
