SOUTH Lakes MP Tim Farron joined local police officers out on the beat in Kendal town centre on Saturday night to get a taste of what life is like on the frontline for them.

He accompanied Inspector Paul Latham and other officers as he spent time at the station looking at their facilities including the custody suite, then joined a car patrol, before spending time on foot patrol.

Mr Farron said he got a good sense of how the police deal effectively and sensitively with vulnerable people, have a good rapport with pubs, bars and restaurant staff and are firm with those who risk the peace, safety and enjoyment of others.
