EMERGENCY services teamed together for a gruelling 12 hour operation to help motorists on the snowy Kirkstone Pass yesterday (February 22).

Cumbria police joined forces with Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service, the North West Ambulance Service and Langdale Ambleside Mountain Rescue Team after drivers ran into difficulty on the A592.

Around five vehicles and a bus became stuck or were involved in collisions - leaving one car on its roof.

Officers were called out at 11.30am to the notoriously dangerous stretch following a crash between a silver Toyota Yarris and another vehicle.

The teams were hard at work until around 12am assisting around 12 people.

There were three casualties with non life threatening injuries and one person was taken to hospital.

A spokesperson for Cumbria Constabulary said a bus became stuck at one point and officers helped the passengers down to safety.
