WINDERMERE holiday cottage company Lakelovers has donated £5,400 to help support red squirrel conservation in the Lake District.
This is the firm’s 14th year of collecting donations through Visitor Giving, and it has raised more than £55,000 for local conservation in that time.
Visitor Giving allows tourists to choose to donate a small sum when booking their holiday cottage which helps to protect the landscape, wildlife and communities that they enjoy during their visit.
Funds raised to support Red Squirrels Northern England enable the charity to continue monitoring the range and population of red squirrels in the Lake District and work with local communities to support strongholds and grey squirrel control.
Nurture Lakeland’s Programme Manager, Sophie Cade, said: “We are delighted to be working with such dedicated businesses as Lakelovers. This allows us to support vital conservation work across Cumbria, all of which contribute to keeping our landscape and its flora and fauna special.”
