TERRIBLE internet connection in Kendal town centre could be a thing of the past as browsing brilliance is on its way.

Tests are currently ongoing to iron out any potential glitches in the new Wi-Fi facility, which would bring free internet access to hundreds of people in the town centre.

Five antenna, including one on the Town Hall, have been erected around the town in an attempt to give coverage to as many town centre areas as possible.

The Gazette reported in July that plans to launch a Wi-Fi system were in an advanced stage and it is hoped the service will now be up and running by the middle of next week (Thursday, March 12).

Smart phone users will be able to access the service, which is set to provide free internet access to each user for around half an hour, by searching for Wi-Fi providers on the 'Settings' app of their device.

Cllr Giles Archibald, who helped make Kendal's Wi-Fi dream a reality, said: “It’s all part of the vision for Kendal agreed between the town council and SLDC. This will increase the attractiveness of Kendal for visitors."

More information will follow as connectivity tests are completed.
