BLOOD Bikes Cumbria, which provides vital transportation of blood in the region, is one of two charities to receive a Vauxhall Mokka 4x4 vehicle.

The donation was made by the Henry Surtees Foundation in support of the Blood On Board project, which allows the Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) to carry and administer blood on its rescue missions.

The vehicle was handed over on behalf of the foundation by James Whitham, the Yorkshire-born motorcycle racer turned commentator. Also receiving a Vauxhall Mokka 4x4 was Northumbria Blood Bikes.

Both vehicles will be used by the Blood Bike groups as all-weather transport for the ferrying of the blood between hospital and aircraft. They were presented by Mr Whitham at the GNAA at Langwathby, near Penrith.
