A CUMBRIAN falconer is offering experience days flying her birds on ancient woodland in Witherslack.

Falconer Lydia Downs has teamed up with the Witherslack Estate to offer visitors and locals the opportunity to fly and handle birds of prey in a wholly natural environment.

Hawks and falcons perform best in their natural surroundings and the experience will give people the chance to roam with the birds deep in the woods and the 2000 acre estate around Halecat House.

Its grounds are popular with walkers and wildlife enthusiasts due to the glorious mixed woodlands and many Sites of Special Scientific Interest.

Lydia, from Lyth Valley Falconry said the experience is both educational and uplifting: “I aim to offer people a really authentic experience at Halecat," she said. "My birds are working birds and so people will get the chance to see how they have evolved to fly hunt and survive in the wild.”
