HOPEFUL parliamentary candidates will go head to head at a debate focusing on global issues.

The South Lakes branch of the United Nations Association is hosting a debate between four General Election contenders on Saturday, March 28 at 4.30pm.

John Bateson (Labour), Tim Farron (Lib Dem), Chris Loynes (Green Party) and Ann Myatt (Conservative) will all attend the event at Kirkland Hall in Kendal.

The major debating issues include: tackling climate change, eliminating extreme poverty, supporting UN humanitarian crisis missions, the European Convention of Human Rights and an in/out referendum on the EU.

The debate, chaired by Rev Rob Saner-Haigh, will take the form of a 45minute question and answer session with written questions currently being accepted on the above topics.

Doors open at 4pm with 80 audience seats up for grabs.
