HUNDREDS of primary school pupils gathered at Casterton, Sedbergh Preparatory School, to get a wiggle on for charity.

The Giant Wiggle event, the only one in the North West, raised more than £500 for the charity Action for Children.

Led by the Very Hungry Caterpillar from the children's books, the under-seven's completed a 560 metre 'wiggle walk' around the school grounds.

Headmaster Scott Carnochan said: “We were thrilled to see so many young children coming together from different nurseries and playgroups, to celebrate the iconic Very Hungry Caterpillar and the charity Action for Children. Seeing their faces as the caterpillar came to greet them was delightful – the sheer excitement.

"When Action for Children accepted our invitation to host a Giant Wiggle event, everyone got on board – children practising wiggling, staff decorating masks, parents making costumes and everyone was busy finding sponsors. It was a real team effort. It is so important to give children the opportunity to help those less fortunate than themselves – and this was an added opportunity to bring to life a character from reading they all know so well."
