A MAN who gained a massive internet following when he performed a good deed a day for 365 days last year has carried on his caring ways at a South Lakes animal shelter.

Luke Cameron - who now officially has 'the Nicest Job in Britain' - is following up his remarkable feat of selflessness by touring the country to help 45 charities during 2015.

And the Wainwright Animal Shelter at Grayrigg - set up by the legendary fellwalker Alfred Wainwright in 1972 - was one of the charities on his list.

Luke, from Cheltenham, spent a week at the shelter - which also known as Animal Rescue Cumbria - helping to look after the rescued animals.

"I have a soft spot for animals," said the 26-year-old. "I try not to be biased with the charities I visit, considering I am going to so many but I do love being at the animal ones.

"Animal Rescue Cumbria is a wonderful charity, be it small but very well run and loving. Every single member of staff and all their wonderful volunteers give their all to ensure these little animals have the best care possible.

"Rescuing an animal that has been abandoned or abused can be so rewarding, I would urge anyone who is looking for a pet to pop down and see one. Just make sure you are capable of looking after the dog or cat you take."

Luke made the decision to do a good deed a day for a year after a close family friend died from cancer in 2013.

He started writing a Good Deed blog and logged every kind gesture he made on the site, which has now amassed thousands of followers.

He is now employed by Utility Aid, a energy consultancy which helps reduce the cost of energy to charities.

They started the Nicest Job in Britain so Luke could be paid to travel the country and visit a wide range of charities. He writes up is experiences in his blog which gets read by around 25,000 people a week.
