"Always seek local knowledge and tide times before venturing out onto the sands."

It is believed three adults, two children and two dogs were left stranded at around 11am on the mud banks, just north of the Ulverston Viaduct.

HM Coastguard were called and they alerted Ulverston Inshore Rescue who dispatched a boat to assist the five back to land.

A spokesperson for the Coastguard said the five 'must have' gone out at low tide without realising they would soon be surrounded.

The Morecambe Bay family were assisted by two crew members using an Arancia Boat and then they were taken to Holker Estate caravan park.

The boat and equipment was washed and ready to use again by 12.30pm.
