JESUS Christ was paraded through the streets of Kendal in front of hundreds of onlookers in a dramatic reenactment of the Passion.

Rain did not deter the faithful crowd as the Kendal Community Theatre performed throughout the town centre.

It began on the Carnegie Library steps where a congregation gathered to witness Judas' emergence before he betrayed Christ at the foot of the war memorial on Market Place.

The masses then marched through Finkle Street, filling the pedestrian area as they followed Jesus to his condemnation by Pontius Pilot outside the Town Hall before a reenactment of his crucifixion at the Brewery Arts Centre.

It proved to be an emotional day for some, like born again Christian Deborah Charnley.

Deborah said: "I find it very stirring because it puts you in the frame of how He suffered betrayal by his friends. It's also an expression of love - the whole heart of Jesus - it shows that He loves us. It's great that it's come to Kendal.

"It's really important for people to know about Jesus because our town is built on Christian values."

Others had travelled a long way to witness this special Easter performance.

Craig Ebbrell said: "I came from Liverpool just to watch it. It's good to see a lot of kids and people from all different ages. It's a really good concept and a great idea."
