EMERGENCY services were called out to a collision between a motorbike and a car on the A590 that left the biker with a suspected broken ankle and thumb.

The A590 at Newby Bridge was closed in both directions while paramedics and an air ambulance crew attended the scene.

When police arrived on the scene, at 1.38pm today (Friday, April 10), they found that a silver Volkswagen Golf, driven by a man from Broughton-in-Furness, and a Triumph Tripple CC motorbike, driven by a 53 year old Millom man, had collided.

The motorbiker was taken to Furness General Hospital and is believed to be in a stable condition.

The driver of the car is not believed to have sustained any injuries.
