A PROJECT to restore Millerground, on the eastern shore of Windermere, has been awarded two grants by South Lakeland District Council (SLDC) from the ‘Locally Important Project’ fund.
Windermere & Bowness Civic Society said that £6,100 will be used towards pathway improvements, and will be combined with a similar grant recently received from the Cumbria County Council local members’ fund.
Cllr John Saunders, of Windermere Town Council who is leading the project, said: “This will mean the step-free footpath from Rayrigg Meadow car park down to the lakeshore can be significantly upgraded.
MORE TOP STORIES: “Improving the surface, edging and drainage will also make a huge improvement for pedestrians and also for pushchair, and hopefully wheelchair access, so opening this fantastic area of lakeshore for people of all ages and abilities.”
In addition, £3000 has been awarded by SLDC to continue the improvement of the view from Rayrigg Bank over the lake to Claife Heights and the fells.
The grant will also provide materials for some new picnic benches to be built and sited to take advantage of the view.
