CHILDREN of all ages can look forward to a new play area as work begins on improving a recreational space in Kendal.

Developments at Hallgarth Park will include a new outdoor gym-style area, a toddler and junior playground and an area for teenagers.

The plans for the park have been designed to offer a range of play experiences and will be accessible to both disabled and non-disabled users.

The money, £55,000, has been secured by the Hallgarth Community Centre Association, with contributions from South Lakeland District Council and Kendal Town Council.

Hallgarth ward councillor Matthew Severn said: "After many months of waiting, the children and young people of Hallgarth are finally getting their new play area.

“It will be a fantastic state-of-the-art facility that will improve lives. I want to pay tribute to the community groups and young people that helped to make it happen.

“Projects like this show how seriously this council takes its duty to improve lives and communities."

Two open consultation events were held in February to ask residents, including parents, children and users of Hallgarth Park, what they would like to see at the park.

The feedback received has been incorporated into the final designs for the park.

Work is expected to be completed by mid-June.
