A WOMAN is in hospital with severe neck and back injuries after an accident at an extreme endurance event.

The Great North Air Ambulance Service were called to the Gelt Gladiator Mud Obstacle Challenge, Brampton, at 11.45am on Saturday, May 16, amid reports that a woman was seriously injured.

On arrival the woman, aged between 41-50 and believed to be from the Carlisle area, was treated for spinal injuries.

She was airlifted to Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle for treatment where she remains in a serious condition.
