A DOG found by walkers on the summit of Scafell Pike has been reunited with its owner following an appeal by an animal charity.
The Scottish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SSPCA) was caring for the male collie discovered on Saturday, May 16, by Scottish holidaymakers who took him home to Ayrshire.
The dog, who is called Sid but was nicknamed Scafell has now been returned to its owner after being in the care of SSPCA’s animal rescue and rehoming centre in Glasgow.
Centre manager Anna O'Donnell said, "The couple who found Scafell said he was petrified and nervous and it took them around half an hour to coax him over to them.
"They advised they did try and get help in England and had called the police but they hadn't been able to assist so they took Scafell home because they were so worried about him and then called us."
She added that the search would be difficult for the organisation as Sid was not microchipped which meant they were unable to trace its owner.
It is believed Sid is a working dog that belongs to a sheep farmer.
