A CONISTON mountain rescuer and a scout leader have successfully scaled the equivalent height of Mount Everest in the space of just a week.

Team member and 1st Hawkshead Scout Leader Lee Harris and fellow Scout Leader Lesley McCartney managed their final ascent of The Old Man of Coniston on Sunday.

The pair had successfully climbed the equivalent height of Everest - 8,848 metres - just by climbing up and down the 803 metre high Old Man.

They started their epic climbs on May 11 and went up and down the mountain over 14 times to reach their Everest equivalent.

Money raised will be split between Coniston Mountain Rescue Team and the scout pack.
