The Lakeland Fells by Bernard Newman, £12.95
SIXTY walks are featured in this excellent guide to some of the most popular Lake District fells.
Although compact enough to slot into a anorak pocket, the book is packed with useful information on each of the featured treks.
The guide is divided into seven colour coded sections - Northern Fells, Borrowdale Fells, Buttermere Fells, Eastern Fells, Ambleside and Langdale Fells, Coniston Fells and Western Fells - and most of the featured walks lie within the Lake District National Park.
The routes - graded 'easy', 'moderate' or 'strenuous' -vary from two miles to nine miles and include lakeside and woodland walks.
In addition to the detail route maps, there are more than 200 colour photographs.
Bernard Newman, a former editor of Mountain and Climber magazines, is a freelance outdoor writer and photographer who has spent four decades exploring the Lakeland fells.
