AN intergenerational dance and storytelling project has launched in Kirkbarrow and Ghyllside.

‘Then I’ll Begin’ is bringing together all ages to perform at The Brewery Arts Centre, Kendal, and in the local community.

The performances will look at stories about the area and use these as an inspiration for a dance performance.

The dancers will also be building a bench as the central point for the performance, which will be placed in the community garden after the performances at Ghyllside Primary School.

The project is being funded by South Lakeland Housing and is done in partnership with Ghyllside Primary School and the Mayor of Kendal, Cllr Tom Clare, as a part of an initiative to make Kendal more ‘age friendly.’

Emma Hayes, the Dance Development Officer, said: “This project is an exciting way to bring different ages together and learn a variety of skills. It is wonderful to see all ages telling each other stories and moving together.”

The performances are on June 19 at the Brewery Arts Centre and at Ghyllside Primary on June 21.

There will also be two Storytelling Sundays on June 5 and June 28 at Ghyllside Primary.

If you have any stories about Ghyllside or Kirkbarrow that you would like including in the project please email Emma Hayes on emma.hayes@breweryarts.co.uk.
