A MAN and a child who died following a collision on the A66 have been named by police.

Michael Jopson, aged 25, and Tony Jopson, aged 18 months, both of Old Tebay, Penrith, died at the scene of the collision on Monday, May 25.

Police were called just after 5pm to a two vehicle road traffic collision on the eastbound carriageway at Crackenthorpe, between Kirkby Thore and Appleby.

The vehicles involved were an HGV and a black Peugeot 307.

The Peugeot 307 was being driven by Mr Jopson, whose youngest son, Logan, was also in the car and remains in a critical condition in Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle.

The driver of the HGV, a 47-year-old man from County Tyrone, was unhurt.

The family of those who died are being supported by specially trained officers.

Police are appealing for any witnesses to the collision to contact police on 101 and ask to speak to the Operational Support Unit.
