AN EDEN village has unveiled its new public defibrillator paid for in memory of loved ones.

Maulds Meaburn residents Vanda Betts, Annie Kindleysides and Brian Morris footed the bill for the piece of equipment which is situated at the village's institute (MMVI) alongside a plaque acknowledging their contribution.

Institute committee member Vanda Betts said: "I’d been wanting to do something in memory of my late husband, Jim.

“He had been a first aider for a long time and was a very charitable man, and he would have wanted to contribute to something like this.

"If it saves a life in his memory, what better tribute could you ask for?”

Two members of the institute team are accredited first aiders and MMVI has also arranged first-aid training for residents in Maulds Meaburn and the surrounding area.
