A KENDAL man has been handed a six-month driving ban after his car aquaplaned into a dry stone wall.

Daniel Mark Cheeseman, of Sleddale Gardens, Castle Street, pleaded guilty to driving without due care and attention on May 13 and was sentenced at South Cumbria Magistrates’ Court yesterday (May 27).

The court heard the 23-year-old was driving his Volkswagen Polo at an inappropriate speed on January 12 on the A591 at Kendal, causing it to spin off the road into a wall.

Lee Dacre, prosecuting, said his front seat passenger was taken to the Royal Lancaster Infirmary with injured ribs and a sore hip.

He added it had been raining for three days and there were several weather warnings out as well as a lot of water on the carriageway.

Cheeseman was also ordered to a pay a fine of £200, £85 courts costs and a £20 victim surcharge.

Judge Gerald Chalk also endorsed his licence with five points, bringing the total to 14.
