MICHAEL Portillo has visited Cumbria for a second time as part of his BBC programme celebrating the country’s railways.
For the new series of ‘Great British Railway Journeys’, Mr Portillo filmed his journey through the Lakes, also visiting Brantwood, Honister slate mines and Keswick.
He walked through Near Sawrey and saw how closely the illustrations in Beatrix Potter’s tales were based on the village, as well as hearing about the author's love of the area.
A National Trust spokesperson said: “Michael was a charming visitor and we were delighted to welcome him to Hill Top.
“He was very interested in the legacy that Beatrix Potter left to the National Trust, which has helped safeguard the landscape for generations. We’re looking forward to seeing the finished programme!”
Mr Portillo travelled through the Furness Peninsula for the programme in 2012.
