Someone once said to me that there are only two people in this world that I trust, you and me – but I’m not so sure about you!

We live in a world which is highly dependent on relationships and very often our relationships break down because of a betrayal of trust, the classic example being where a husband or wife commits adultery and the marriage breaks down, causing hurt, not just for the spouse, but also for children, parents, other family members and close friends.

Another betrayal of trust can occur in the workplace where individuals might pursue their own ambitions at whatever cost, compromising their integrity, honesty and, of course, trustworthiness.

Christians have a friend who we can trust implicitly. More than a friend, He is our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

Through His resurrection He has conquered death and is alive today, and with the Holy Spirit, enables us to have a personal relationship with Him. He keeps His promises and can always be trusted.

He teaches us how to behave and carries us through difficult times. He said “Come to me all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28).

People everywhere are yearning for a better world to live in, where we keep our promises, accept responsibility for our actions, put others first, look after the needy and, above all, love each other – a kind of Heaven on Earth. That kind of world is only possible with Jesus Christ at the centre.
