A SOGGY sheep was saved from a watery grave as one mountain rescue team had a ewenique day at the office.
A five-strong crew from Penrith Mountain Rescue Team took to the water to save the sheep, which had swam to an island on Haweswater to avoid being gathered by a shepherd two weeks ago.
When crews arrived, the animal jumped back into the water and tried to swim to shore but eventually hitched a lift with its rescuers.
After reaching dry land and stocking up on some much-needed grass, the farmer told rescue crews that the liveliest member of his flock tried to swim away from him again.
