CAR owners from the length and breadth of the country descended on the Westmorland County Showground for the fifth annual CumbriaVag Show and Shine Festival.

Around 2,500 cars made the trip over the weekend to the festival at Crooklands, which celebrates the great and the good of mainly Volkswagen and Audis.

The event, which previously was held at Heaves Hotel, Sizergh, was organised by Matt Prescott and Stef Duff.

Stef said: "What people say about this is that it is chilled out and you see a lot more local cars.

"The event is family orientated and a good day out."

The car show day took place on Sunday but around 1,000 people arrived on Saturday for a night of drum and bass, headlined by the Prototypes and Brookes Brothers, as well as support from local DJs, before camping out under the stars.

One of those attending was Billy Wharton, 25, from Dalton.

He said: "There's a lot of cars that you wouldn't normally see all in one place. It's just getting bigger and better. It's massive now compared to what it was."

The event was tainted with the arrest of two men following a report of an assault and damage to two cars in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Jonathan Brown, aged 20, of Ghyll Road, Windermere, has since been charged with two counts of criminal damage, two counts of possessing an offensive weapon in a public place and obstructing/resisting a constable.

A 19-year-old from Oxenholme was arrested on suspicion of assault and will answer bail on July 26.

Both were taken to Royal Lancaster Infirmary to be checked over, said police.
