THE clocks were rolled back on a seaside town this weekend as it celebrated its annual vintage spectacular.

Classic cars, red lipstick and jolly good old entertainment were a feature of the third Arnside Vintage Day.

Die-hard vintage lovers and families made a bee-line for the bunting-clad coastal spot which was serving up all manner of fun including a Pimms tents for the parents and a Punch and Judy for the kids.

Posh Sardine owner Jane Caldwell, one of the four organisers, said: "Arnside already has such a lovely frontage which already gives us a feeling of the past and more and more people are interested in vintage these days."

With vintage stalls full of clothes, jewellery and furniture, and plenty to see and do, the business owners and organisers hoped to raise around £2,000 for the Arnside Business and Community Fund.

Burneside Brass Band played on the pier, Milnthorpe Steel Band gave audiences a show at Ye Olde Fighting Cocks while vintage style singer Cindy Hoten kept people entertained with some old-time classics.

And a Rock and Roll Dance evening at the Educational Institute with music by The Holies was a sell-out.

Among the 30 or so cars there was a restored 1944 Ford Jeep belonging to Kendal resident Phil Russell who turned out in Home Guard attire.

"I've been interested in these kind of things for about 13 years and go to a lot of 1940s event," he said. "Me and my wife dress up and we also like to dance too. Arnside is a nice friendly event."
