A DOG owner is appealing for help to find her four-legged 'constant companion' of a near decade who has been missing for four days.

Anthea Morshead's nine-year-old Jack Russell disappeared at Cartmel Racecourse at around 6.15pm on Thursday (June 25) after she and pup Jack had just finished their third course walk of the day.

But despite help from villagers there has been no sign of the black and white terrier and the desperate mum is asking for the public to keep their eyes peeled.

"Jack was with us as I went to look at the cooling facilities that we were setting up for the horses that were due to race the next day. That was the last time I saw him," said Anthea. "He is a very dear character, and at nine years old has been a constant companion for me and my 18-year-old son Henry who has grown up with him.

"He is a massive character, despite a small stature!"

Posters have been put around Cartmel and flyers have been distributed.

MORE TOP STORIES: "He is well known in the village in Cartmel, and so many kind people have been out looking for him," she added. "Many kind locals and villagers have looked through the woods and hedge backs with their own dogs, in case he is stuck down a badger sett or rabbit hole, but with no luck so far.

"He has now been away for four nights and Henry and I are both desperately worried for him.

"I would be very grateful if people could keep their eyes peeled in case he has stowed away in a car and ended up miles from home!"

Anthea added that there was a £500 reward for his safe return.
