I was asked to hold a memorial service for a homeless person who died at age 45 on the streets. There were no money or relatives, the council was just disposing of his body.
Those "street people" included mostly substance abusers. Seventeen people, plus a dog, attended as we remembered their friend.
I asked them to light a candle in memory of him. Also, if they wished to have a copy of God's word, they could take a copy from the table as they came forward.
Ten of these most vulnerable people took a copy of the book of the New Testament and Psalms. We finished the time with prayer, and one lady came forward and asked me to show her where in the book the Scripture was that I read.
They then left. The caretaker and I stood in the doorway and started praying, which prompted two people to return and join in our prayers.
The above is a true story told by a Christian, who is a member of Gideons International, who believe that Jesus loves all of us, regardless of status or circumstance.
Christians also believe that Jesus longs for us to believe in Him and love Him back. Could you do that?
