MOTORING enthusiasts are polishing paintwork, pulling on their driving gloves and making their way to Leighton Hall for this Sunday's classic car rally.

Owners of class MGs, Triumph Stags, Austin Sevens, Land Rovers and more will be proudly presenting their treasured automobiles at the historic house, near Carnforth, for families and car connoisseurs to enjoy.

The 16th Lakeland Classic Car and Bike Show is to feature more than 400 cars, motorcycles, vintage tractors, stationary engines, military and commercial vehicles and 4x4s, and it is organised by Mark Woodward Classic Events.

Visitors will have the chance to chat to the exhibitors about their pride-and-joys, pick up rare or discontinued parts at the auto jumble sale, browse trade stands or simply admire the gleaming displays.

Leighton Hall is the lived-in home of the Gillow furniture-making family and, for a small extra charge, the house will be open for guided tours on Sunday. The tearoom, gardens and grounds will also be open that day, complete with children's play area, caterpillar maze, tree face trail and woodland walk.

Suzie Reynolds, owner of the hall, said: “Mark Woodward’s shows are always well supported by exhibitors and visitors alike, and his name is synonymous with high-calibre vintage events. We always look forward to welcoming him to Leighton. It’s such a thrill to take in the smells and sounds of these beautiful cars and to see them parading through the parkland."
