THE Kendal Lads' and Girls' Club its doors to the public to celebrate the work of the youth centre over the last 50 years on Saturday.

During the day past members who had attended the club during the 1960s and '70s popped in to tell of what they experienced and enjoyed at the Beezon Fields club.

George 'Podge' Barnfather said: “I had the best times of my life at this club. I loved every minute of it”

There was also a day of competitions for BMX biking, scooter riding and skate boarding. It provided a great display of skill and dare as the young people did tricks and stunts. This skate event was funded by the Cumbria's Police and Crime Commissioner Richard Rhodes from his community fund.

At lunch time Cumbria's High Sheriff, Sam Rayner, with the help Brian Ferguson, who was youth leader at the centre when it opened in 1965, planted an apple tree to mark the club's half century anniversary.
