A YELLOW warning of rain is in place for Cumbria for this evening on what the Met Office has described as the 'hottest day of the year'.
The day saw a mixture of soaring temperatures and torrential downpours with 'isolated heavy and possibly severe thunderstorms' predicted overnight.
MORE TOP STORIES: But with temperatures climbing to 29 degrees in Cumbria, experts were also warning people to stay hydrated, wear suncream and keep indoor areas as cool as possible.
Meanwhile First TransPennine Express tackled the hot weather by loading 26,000 bottles of water onto its trains, and even handing out ice lollies on some services.
