POLICE are investigating after a man scammed a car company out of a valuable documnent that could be used to fraudulently register vehicles.

The incident occured at a car dealership in Appleby on Monday, June 29, when a man posing as a potential buyer entered the store and asked for the V5 Car Registration Document in order to check a vehicle's history.

The man, described by police as being of Asian appearance and in his late 30's, made off with the document and did not return.

Police are urging people to be vigilant as it is believed this could be more than a localised scam.
