What exactly is Austerity? by Justin Walker

THIS 72-page treatise on austerity and the global monetary system, written in the form of an e-book by South Lakes man Justin Walker, could not have been better timed.

As the Greek economic crisis deepens and question marks hang over the future of the euro in particular and the European project in general, he explores a distinctly non-conventional approach to solving global financial problems.

At the heart of his thesis is a form of currency historically known as the Bradbury Pound, which was used as a 'weapon' to help fight Germany in the Great War.

Named after John Bradbury, the government's chief economic advisor of the time, the pound was basically the creation of money free of interest, based on the credit and wealth of the nation. Its great advantage, says Mr Walker, who lives in Dent, is that a nation would never need to go to private banks for loans.

The full title of Mr Walker's e-book also provides what he believes to be the answer - that austerity is a actually 'huge, provable lie'.
