AN ARTIST captivated by Nepal's beauty hopes that her new book will help relief work in the earthquake-hit country.

Sophie Martin, originally from Kendal but now based in Bowness, spent three months travelling and trekking around the Kathmandu Valley last year, as well as volunteering with an art charity that helps Tibetan refugee children.

Sophie's book, Namaste Nepal, records her impressions in vibrant pen and watercolour illustrations. Sadly, as she explained, many of the places featured have since been destroyed or changed dramatically by April's earthquake and its aftermath.

The illustrator is donating the proceeds of her 40-page book to help the earthquake relief effort as well as the work of charity Art Refuge UK, which she volunteered with in Nepal.

It's on sale priced £5 at Kendal's Museum of Lakeland Life and Industry, Turning Point and Kendal Picture Framers, or from www.sophiemartinillustration.co.uk

Sophie will also be exhibiting some of her Nepal and India illustrations during an exhibition with printmaker Louise Smurthwaite at Kendal's Josefina Gallery in November.
